Who We Are
The Indiana Strength and Conditioning’s philosophy is built from a holistic approach in an effort to enhance a student athletes physical and mental capability. It’s designed with research-based programming that is scientifically backed to ensure that our student athletes are receiving the most up-to-date, cutting-edge holistic training promoting strength, power, conditioning as well as overall physical and mental wellness. Indiana strength’s coaches individualizes all programs to make the program athlete and sport specific. Four key principles make up all programs. Safe, Comprehensive, Progressive and Overload.
1. Safe: workouts with in a program must never put the student athlete at risk of injury from exercise prescription.
2. Comprehensive: Programs are designed with promote a balanced and symmetrical body. Exercises prescription is designed to fix asymmetries and to create musculature balance. When the body is proportioned equally and is balanced injury risk is goes down and performance goes up.
3. Progressive: All programs will constant promote progression of strength, conditioning, speed, agility and flexibility. There is a scientifically backed rhyme and reason for every progression with in and exercise program.
4. Overload: Overload is the foundation of making the body adapt. Scientifically backed progressions allow our coaches to properly and safely challenge the body to with a calculated overload.
Indiana Strength and Conditioning is centered around collaboration to maximize the highest athletic performance outcomes for our student athletes. Collaboration with sports medicine, sports science, sports nutrition, sport psychology and academics allows a holistic 360-degree view of the student athlete both physically and mentally at all times. Indiana strength and conditioning coach utilizes feedback from each of these different areas to learn better about the the student athlete and what coaching strategies will be the most affective.
Sport Science Integration
The Dr. Lawrence D. Rink Center for Sports Medicine and Technolog
Cutting-edge technology, research and education are the focus of the Center for Elite Athlete Development space designed to help IU student-students reach their highest athletic potential. The Center will zero in on cardiovascular testing, diagnosis and research; neuro-cognitive issues; visual research and training; bio-mechanical monitoring and sleep, rest and recovery education.
Sports Medicine Collaboration
The new Rehabilitation and Treatment Center offers three times the space as the previous athletic training room. Included in its nearly 10,000 square feet of space are four hot and cold tubs, a lap pool and an underwater treadmill. In addition, IU's student-athletes and medical professionals will have the very latest in diagnostic equipment and the like at their disposal to help prevent, diagnose, rehabilitate and treat injuries.These facilities provide comprehensive physical and mental healthcare for IU student-athletes with physician offices, psychologist and nutritionist offices, exam rooms, diagnostic equipment, a hydrotherapy treatment room, and the like; all-inclusive space and equipment to help prevent, diagnose, rehabilitate and treat injuries to student-athletes; and research and technology to apply science to the development of champion student-athletes. Occupying 21,446 square feet, the Center is seven times the size of the department's previous training facility.
Sport Psychology and Performance
The Irsay Family Wellness Center aids in the physical and mental well-being of the nearly 650 students that participate in 24 varsity sports at Indiana. Occupying 11,937 square feet of space, it houses exam rooms, x-ray machines, procedure rooms, physician offices, sports psychologist offices, a nutrition office and a consultation room.
